When Life Gives You Lemons, You Get Lemon8

Lately, it seems like Lemon8 has everybody talking. Will it be the next big thing or just the next big trend? Social media giants like Facebook and Instagram are already well established, making it extremely difficult for a new platform to even compete alongside them. The 2020 pandemic couldn’t have been a better time for TikTok to launch and rise to fame—and it has maintained its popularity. But on the other hand, BeReal went viral two years after its initial launch (boasting 15 million users at its peak), only to drop down to 15 million in less than 6 months. Timing is everything. While success for your brand depends on your target audience, we deem it important to give every new app fair consideration.

And right now, that new app is Lemon8. Users and creators have described it as being like a hybrid of Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok. Lemon8 is actually TikTok’s sister app, as both share the same parent company: ByteDance.

The user experience is definitely unique—Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok all combined into 1 app is hard to imagine as a Lemon8 newbie. Features of the platforms it is inspired by are apparent. The content you see is aesthetically pleasing, like what you’d find on Pinterest, and users can see anywhere between 4 to 6 images at once. Its Instagram similarities are shown through the scroll-down functionality and carousel content, and Lemon8 is reported to “share the same algorithm as TikTok” according to Euronews Next.

Lemon8’s layout is nearly identical to TikTok. The only difference is the actual content on your “For You” page, which ranges from photos to videos, with creators often utilizing a carousel format to display their posts.

The social media world has yet to see if Lemon8 will climb the ladder and stand alongside other platforms like Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube… Time will tell. In the meantime, we suggest having fun with Lemon8! The app offers plenty of customization options (from templates, filters, fonts, to stickers) to really tailor and decorate your posts to your aesthetic. No two posts can be too similar. More importantly, we found a special little corner of Lemon8 for the medical aesthetics world. Content creators like estheticians are showcasing the procedures they’ve done, favorite skincare lines, and more.
